part 2: downtown savannah

Friday, May 3, 2013

We are absolutely smitten by downtown Savannah.  Ian and I have a lot of conversations as we walk around our neighborhood in downtown Lexington about what we could add to it to make it more cohesive and pedestrian friendly.  Walking around downtown Savannah was as if one of our conversations hatched and became a city.  Every few blocks there are squares of cobblestone, benches and beautiful old trees.  The gorgeous historic buildings are being utilized for new and unique purposes.  As we walked around on a Friday evening after we'd finished eating at Lady and Son's (Paula Deen's restaurant.  YUM.)  We were amazed at how many events and activities were going on for everyone to enjoy.  There were two live concerts, a film being shown in one of the parks and plenty to do and see. The next day we explored some more, mostly walking around the neighborhoods surrounding downtown to see the great old houses.  Breathtaking.  Well done Savannah.  We can't wait to go back and find out more.
